What is a Parks Canada Management Plan?

Canada’s national parks, national historic sites, and national marine conservation areas are heritage places that protect Canada’s natural and cultural heritage, and offer truly Canadian experiences. Developed in consultation with local Indigenous communities, valued partners, stakeholders, volunteer groups, and members of the public, a Parks Canada Management Plan guides management decisions and actions, and serves as a key accountability document to the public for each place. It also includes key strategies, objectives and targets to achieve expected results. A Management Plan is the road map that guides us to:

  • protect natural and cultural resources
  • facilitate visitor experiences and learning opportunities
  • collaborate with Indigenous peoples, key partners and other partners and stakeholders

Under the Canada National Parks Act, we are required to review our park management plan every ten years. The current Parks Canada Management Plan for Fort Rodd Hill and Fisgard Lighthouse National Historic Sites was tabled in Parliament on December 14, 2022.
