Old Time Ranch Rodeo

Time-honoured and traditional skills of ranching comes to the rodeo arena. Cheer on your favourite ranch as teams of working cowboys compete for silver Bar U buckles and bragging rights! You’ll be entertained with events such as broke horse racing, wild cow milking, team sorting as well as branding and doctoring.
A Royal Harvest and Heavy Horse Weekend
September 14 and 15
The horse-powered harvest commences in the Bar U field. On Sunday, watch today’s teamsters guide their heavy horse teams around a course of skill-testing manoeuvres. See how skills of days gone by are demonstrated by drivers from 18 to 80 years of age! Keeping horsepower history alive for all to enjoy and be inspired by.
Special commemoration event: The 100th anniversary of Edward, Prince of Wales visiting the Bar U Ranch and its then owner George Lane. Shortly after visiting the area in 1919, the Prince purchased a neighbouring ranch, now known as the EP (Edward, Prince) Ranch. The prince's visit and purchase brought international attention to the area and made lasting changes to the community. The EP Ranch is situated adjacent to Pekisko Creek, 4 km from the current Bar U Ranch site.
On Sunday, September 15 visitors will have a unique opportunity to visit the EP Ranch. A tractor hayride will take Bar U Ranch visitors to the EP Ranch for a special tour of the ranch house and some of the surrounding buildings.
- The tour will take approximately 2.5 hours (ride time from Bar U Ranch to EP Ranch is 30 minutes; EP Ranch tour 90 minutes; return ride from EP Ranch to Bar U Ranch is 30 minutes).
- The special EP tours leave the Bar U Ranch at 11 am and 2 pm and are included in the regular National Historic Site admission price.
- Space is limited to 30 guests per tour on a first come, first served basis.
- Register in person on the day at the Bar U Ranch.
