Ranching-focused school programs are delivered by Parks Canada interpreters in 30-minute segments. Programs are comprised of hands-on activities, demonstrations, interactive talks, sensory experiences and environmental hikes.
Bar U Ranch school programming demonstrates a broad range of educational themes integrating historical, cultural, social, political, environmental and economic themes.
Belly of the Bar U
Experience the variety of methods practiced to maintain self-sufficiency. Featured is the cookhouse, garden, root cellar and storage sheds.
A creek-side trek where students learn about land management practices that help sustain an important ecosystem.
Through storytelling, students learn how cowboys lived and worked on the range.
Program dates: May 13 to September 30, 2019
Class size: Maximum 60
Program times: Morning (10 am to 12 pm) or afternoon (12:30 pm tp 2:30 pm)
Lunch facilities: Outdoor picnic areas and shelters are available for lunch. The Bar U Cafe is open from 10 am to 5 pm and is a great place for adults to purchase coffee or food.

|Horse-drawn wagon||Book our wagon pulled by the Percheron horses that made the Bar U Ranch famous. The wagon holds a maximum of 15 passengers. Teachers are responsible for breaking students into groups and communicating to the driver a preferred length for each ride.||12:30 pm to 2 pm||$171.70|
|Self-guided visit||Explore the many ranch buildings, grounds and exhibits that are brought to life by our costumed interpreters. Your students can work through a variety of activities as they explore the ranch with our Xplorer’s Booklets.||10 am to 5 pm||Free|
Beginning January 1, 2018, school program fees will be:
- Youth: $7.30
- Adult chaperones, teachers and assistants: free
- Enhanced horse-drawn Wagon program: $171.70
