Things to do
Explore the headquarters of the once-mighty Bar U Ranch. Hitch a ride on a wagon drawn by Percheron horses. Learn to rope a steer, saddle a horse, repair a bridle or sip piping hot cowboy coffee around the campfire at the roundup chuck wagon beside Pekisko Creek. Reconnect with the land on Canada’s ranch!
The Bar U Ranch has the largest collection of historical ranch buildings in Canada. Watch the blacksmith prepare horseshoes or the saddle maker repair a rein; pop into the stables, the post office and of course the cookhouse and smell fresh baking.
Follow in the footsteps of the cowboys who called this home. Inside the “Belly of the Bar U”, feel the heat of the wood-burning cook stove, taste some fresh baking and hear the creak of the floor from the bunkhouse above. This is how they lived!
Ever tried roping a runaway steer? Here is your chance to master the skill of looping a rope over the head of a replica steer. Standing still isn’t so hard, but just imagine doing it sitting in the saddle on a galloping horse.
