Historic designation has a number of advantages, including access to subsidy programs to preserve, rehabilitate or restore the historic value of a building.
Parks Canada established the National Historic Sites of Canada Cost-Sharing Program through which the site owner may be reimbursed up to 50% of eligible costs incurred in the conservation and presentation of a national historic site. For more information, visit the National Historic Sites of Canada Cost-Sharing Program web page. Please note that the program does not apply to heritage railway stations or to heritage lighthouses unless they are also designated as national historic sites.
The Heritage Canada Foundation has compiled a list of all national, provincial, community and regional funding sources available in Canada.
