The Lake Superior National Marine Conservation Area project to design and construct a new facility in Nipigon to support Parks Canada operations in the region continues its forward momentum.

The concept design stage is complete, as is an initial environmental assessment for the project. The complete design phase is the next step. It involves: finalising and confirming the exterior appearance of the facility, updating the design of the visitor centre portion of the facility, a schematic/blueprint design completion, and detailed engineering design. Once this phase is completed a tender ready package will be made available for bidders. This project will be tendered for construction using the Procurement Strategy for Aboriginal Business, and Parks Canada will inform local Indigenous-owned businesses about this opportunity over the coming year.

Parks Canada will be working with key partners and stakeholders to ensure the messages and exhibits in the visitor center portion of the building reflect the character and spirit of the cultural and natural heritage of the northern Lake Superior region.
