Trail Condition Report

Jasper National Park of Canada

Updated: May-23-18

A partial fire ban is in effect in Jasper National Park as of Friday, May 18.

Warning! It’s elk calving season:
Protective mothers will aggressively protect their newborns by kicking and charging at people.  Keep at least 30 m away and keep your dog on a leash. Report all elk encounters to Parks Canada staff (780) 852-6155.

Travelling in bear country:
Be aware. Bears are out and about. Use standard bear precautions: be alert, travel in groups, make noise, carry bear spray and know how to use it. Keep pets on a leash at all times. Report bear sightings and encounters to Parks Canada staff (780) 852-6155.

It’s tick season:
Caution! Be extra careful when travelling in areas with a lot of underbrush.  Thoroughly check yourself, your children, your pets and associated clothing after hiking.

Hikers & bikers:
Please consider the impact that feet & tires can have on wet, muddy trails and let them dry up.

Low Elevation Trails in the Spring:
The Valley Trails offer a variety of conditions.  Trails in open exposed areas will be dry to muddy, with water accumulating in low lying areas. Trails in sheltered areas will be snow-covered and icy.

Backcountry travel in spring:
Winter conditions continue to exist on many upper elevation trails within Jasper National Park.

If you have trail conditions to share, please email us jnp.info@pc.gc.ca or leave a message on 780-852-6177.
