George Hunt was one of the most outstanding ethnographers to study West Coast Native peoples. Born at Fort Rupert of English and Tlingit parents, he was fully accepted into Kwakwaka wakw society and was esteemed for his efforts to preserve his people's traditional knowledge and make it known around the world. He selected and purchased important artifacts for study and display by museums in Europe and North America. In collaboration with other scholars, Hunt solicited, recorded, translated and interpreted material which revealed the rich complexities of Kwakwaka wakw culture. Approved 1995
