Plaque(s)

This dynamic entrepreneur, who built a lumber empire in western Canada, was a pioneer in the country’s forest industry. His many mills and logging operations, including the profitable Hastings Mill, were amalgamated and incorporated in 1891, as the British Columbia Mills, Timber and Trading Company, the province’s first forestry conglomerate. With further expansions in the 20th century, Hendry’s company led the way in mechanized logging and achieved integration in all aspects of lumber production, transportation and marketing. It also manufactured prefabricated buildings, such as this one, its former office and showpiece.
