A major prairie farm leader, Wood was born in Missouri and emigrated to the Carstairs district of Alberta in 1905. He was president of the United Farmers of Alberta, 1916-1931, a founder of the prairie wheat pools, and first chairman of the Alberta Wheat Pool, 1923 - 1937. An advocate of economic group government, he influenced the philosophy of agrarian politics and contributed to the electoral success of the United Farmers of Alberta which formed the provincial government of Alberta from 1921 to 1935. He died at Calgary.
