A prominent Wolastoqkew (Maliseet) guide, hunter and interpreter, "Gabe" Acquin acted as an intermediary between Wolastoqiyik and Euro-Canadian society. His knowledge of Wolastoqkew culture and his entertaining companionship facilitated his relationship with colonial leaders, military officers and visiting dignitaries. Acquin contributed to a better understanding of Wolastoqiyik by demonstrating their cultural practices at international exhibitions and by working with scholars. He is recognized as an emissary and statesman of his people and by the St. Mary's First Nation as their founder. *Note: This designation has been identified for review.
