An internationally renowned conductor, Wilfrid Pelletier is remembered for his contribution to the musical life of Quebec, especially in opera and through such institutions as the Montréal Festivals and the Matinées symphoniques for young people. First director of the Conservatoire de musique du Québec, he was also artistic director of the Montréal and Québec symphony orchestras, and director of the provincial music teaching programme. He was invested as a Companion of the Order of Canada in 1967, and the Salle Wilfrid-Pelletier at the Place des Arts was named in his honor.
