Born at Shediac and educated in medicine, Webster held successful appointments at Edinburgh, McGill, and the Rush Medical College, Chicago, before becoming, in 1889, Chief Obstetrician and Gynecologist at the Chicago Presbyterian Hospital. The author of significant treaties on scientific subjects, he turned, upon retiring, to historical research, wrote many articles on the history of New Brunswick, and helped to found museums, notably at Saint John and Fort Beausejour. Elected to the Royal Society of Canada in 1924, he also served on the Historic Sites and Monuments Board of Canada. He died at Shediac.
