Lawyer and journalist Morin joined the Legislative Assembly of Lower Canada as the member for Bellechasse in 1830. He participated in the Rebellion of 1837 and helped write the 92 Resolutions, grievances published by the Parti patriote. Elected to the legislature of the Province of Canada in 1841, he went on to serve as co-premier with Francis Hincks (1851–1854) and Allan MacNab (1854–1855). In 1854, his government abolished the seigneurial system in Canada East. He became a judge of the Superior Court in 1855 and, from 1859 until his death, helped draft the Civil Code of Lower Canada, one of his greatest achievements.
