National Parks and National Historic Sites of Canada in Prince Edward IslandArdgowan National Historic Site of CanadaArdgowan National Historic Site was once the home of William Henry Pope, one of Prince Edward Island’s Fathers of Confederation. Ardgowan’s exterior facade is a fine example of a “cottage ornée”, or picturesque cottage, and the Victorian garden appears as it did in the mid 19th century—complete with perennials, ornate hedges, orchards, even a croquet lawn. The building now houses the Prince Edward Island administrative office of Parks Canada and is not open to visitors. The grounds are open to the visiting public. Getting ThereArdgowan is a 5-minute drive from downtown Charlottetown. Drive west on University Avenue and turn right at Belvedere Avenue. Turn right again at the first intersection. Travel one block and you’ll find the Site on the left, surrounded by trees, at the corner of Mount Edward Road and Palmer’s Lane. Making the Most of Your Visit
