Public Involvement in the Rouge

Since 2011, Parks Canada has involved more than 150 provincial, municipal, Aboriginal and community stakeholder groups in public consultations, and received comments from more than 15,000 Canadians on Rouge National Urban Park. This public engagement program has been one of the most successful in Parks Canada’s 104-year-old history!

In 2012 and 2014, Parks Canada led extensive public consultation processes on the park’s concept and draft management plan, respectively, which included several open houses, on-line surveys, dozens of community events, and presentations, meetings and discussions with provincial, municipal, Aboriginal and community groups. These engagement activities generated thousands of comments that have helped shape the vision and direction of Canada’s first national urban park and improve our work.

There are many ways to stay connected with Parks Canada and Rouge National Urban Park, including joining one of our in-park walks or events, volunteering or getting involved in park stewardship.
