December – Protection and Conservation at Parks Canada

As our last Centennial Theme Month, December and its Protection and Conservation theme give us a great opportunity to show you how our team contributes every day to our country’s future. In the last 100 years, Parks Canada has committed to caring for our natural and cultural treasures, as well as supporting efforts of others in the same sense, and it continues today. As we mark our centennial and the great milestone it represents, we are reaffirming our care, commitment and support to our national treasures so they continue to amaze the generations that will follow us.

Protection and conservation are a daily and continuous work at Parks Canada. From refurbishing a roof and giving it the appearance it once had to protecting the nesting grounds of endangered species, our experts work relentlessly to provide Canadians and the world with opportunities to better know Canada, today and tomorrow. Christmas is a time of celebration! Join us in many of our parks and sites to celebrate the holidays!

Also, this month:

• The Royal Canadian Geographical Society (RCGS) recently presented its Gold Medal to Parks Canada, the Dehcho First Nations and the Canadian Parks and Wilderness Society (CPAWS) for the expansion of Nahanni National Park Reserve. 
  
• The Royal Canadian Mint unveils another coin from « Our Legendary Nature » collection, celebrating Canada’s natural and cultural heritage and Parks Canada’s centennial.
  
• Every year, the Parks Canada Review presents Parks Canada’s achievements in protection and conservation, amongst others. Check out our latest in 2011. 
  
• The Canadian Register of Historic Places continues to celebrate Parks Canada’s centennial! Look at what they have prepared in December to profile the agency’s role in protecting and conserving our national treasures.
