Haines Junction is the primary staging area for interpretive activities in Kluane National Park & Reserve and is the site of the main park Visitor Reception Centre which offers displays and information.

Tachäl Dhäl (Sheep Mountain) Visitor Centre located one hour north of Haines Junction along the Alaska Highway on the shores of Kluane Lake, focuses on Kluane National Park & Reserve's most abundant large mammal: Dall Sheep, which are seen from the viewing deck from late August to mid June.

Interpretive Programs

Park interpreters are available to help you discover Kluane National Park & Reserve and its rich diversity. Activities include campfire talks, guided walks and special events. Each summer a schedule of interpretive events is released. Interpretive programming starts in June and runs until late August. Phone 867-634-7207 for more details.

Parks Canada’s online school program “National Park Challenges”, an approximately five-hour Grade 10 Life Science unit plan features a Kluane case study:

  1. Environmental Stewardship Certificate Program (Gr. 4) – Five hour-long lessons; the first and last are taught by the Parks Canada interpreter; a kit contains everything needed for the others.

  3. The Case of the Missing Kokanee Salmon (Gr. 8) – 70 minutes
