Generally hiking is best between June 15 and September 15. However, if you are prepared for colder weather it is possible to hike as early mid-May or as late as the end of October.
April 1 to November 15 registration for overnight trips into the park is MANDATORY. You must purchase a Backcountry Permit and bear resistant food canisters are mandatory. From Victoria Day long weekend through Labour Day you can purchase permits, register and obtain food canisters at the Kluane National Park Visitor Centre in Haines Junction or at the Tachäl Dhäl (Sheep Mountain) Visitor Centre. During the off-season self-register at the Da Kų Cultural Centre.
Between November 15th and April 1st registration for overnight trips into the backcountry IS NOT REQUIRED . You are responsible for your own SAFETY. You should file a travel plan with a friend or family member whether you are heading out for the day or on a multi-day trip. Park staff may not be able to respond to emergencies during this time period.
