Prince Albert National Park of Canada
Community Plan Review (2007)
During the summer of 2007, we are interested in hearing your views on the updates to the 2000 Waskesiu Community Plan. By participating, you will play a role in shaping the future of the community of Waskesiu.
As a strategic and long-term guide, a community plan establishes the vision for the coming five to ten years. It develops a clear vision for national park community and visitor center of Waskesiu that is consistent with the Canada’s National Park Act and Regulations, Parks Canada’s guiding Principles and Operating Policies, the Prince Albert National Park Management Plan and the community planning principles announced by the Minister in June of 1998. The plan sets limits to growth and parameters for development and use that ensure the community is ecologically and socially healthy. It creates conditions that are favorable for successful economic development and re-development which respect the planning principles set forth in the plan. It provides a tool that helps managers make timely decisions about proposals for development, redevelopment and appropriate activities. It provides a strategy that reflects Waskesiu’s potential contribution to natural park values; meet the needs of Canadians, First Nation and Métis peoples, visitors, residents and business; safeguards the ecological and cultural resources for which the park is recognized and allows both private and public sectors to contribute to the creation of an attractive and functional community.
The core of the 2000 Waskesiu Community Plan is still current and valid, however in preliminary consultation, we have identified two issues that may warrant revisions or additional clarification – the release of surveyed cabin and cottage area lots and the need for a revitalizations of the community with the development of a ‘Sense of Place’.
With this in mind, we will, therefore, use the existing Community Plan as a core and will make the applicable updates through the use of an amendment. We would like for you to be involved in the updating of the community plan. In addition to the two issues, you may want to offer some suggestions for amendments to the 2000 Waskesiu Community Plan.
Open Houses will be held:
- Prince Albert National Park – Annual General Open House at the Assembly Hall in Waskesiu on July 28, 2007 09:00-12:00
- Hawood Inn, in Waskesiu on August 22, 2007 – 10:00-15:00
If you unable attend the open houses, feel free to submit your comments by email, fax or mail. Closing date for the receipt of comments is September 24, 2007.
