Cozy Up By the Campfire

Elk Ridge Resort

Bring your family and join Parks Canada staff for a fun-filled campfire program at Elk Ridge Resort. Learn about the courtship of our forest friends and let your inner ‘wild’ self out – animal charades, campfire songs and more! Winter warming treats provided.

Meet at the campfire near the skating rink at Elk Ridge Resort. Dress for winter weather.

Be Adventure Smart – Hug a Tree

Waskesiu, Prince Albert National Park
Saturday, February 13th and Saturday, February 20th
2:00 p.m. – 3:00 p.m.

Get informed and go outdoors. Children learn how to ‘Hug a Tree’ to survive if they get lost and tips on how to stay safe during their adventures in the wilderness. Free giveaways from AdventureSmart.

Meet at the winter shelter across from the Visitor Centre. Dress for winter weather.

Wolf Howl

Waskesiu, Prince Albert National Park
Saturday, February 13th and Saturday, February 20th
6:00 p.m. – 7:30 p.m.

Discover your ‘wild’ side by howling wolf songs and prancing with the ‘local’ pack. Trek under a blanket of stars and make a howling effort to communicate with our resident wolves. After the hike, warm up with hot chocolate at the Hawood Inn and share your wilderness experience.

Party on the Pond

An Authentic Canadian shinny tournament on the pond at Elk Ridge Resort. Exciting 4 on 4 hockey action with men’s, women’s and over 40 divisions. Come for the day to check out the hockey action or stay for the weekend and enjoy the best of winter. Area attractions include Ice skating on the pond or at the in-door rink in Waskesiu, a toboggan hill, cross-country skiing and ice fishing on Waskesiu Lake!

Family Fun Fishing days

Canada Day at the Lake

Park entry is free on Canada Day! Start the day at the pancake breakfast, watch our great parade, and join us for flag raising and cupcakes.

5:00 pm - 7:00 pm - Bike Decorating by the tennis courts

July 1
8:00 am – 11:00 am - Rise & Shine Pancake Breakfast at Community Hall

12:00 pm - 1:15 pm – Canada Day Parade down Waskesiu Drive, Participants meet at Ajawaan street – Beaver Glen Campground Junction.

Ceremonial Flag Raising & Cupcakes immediately following the parade on Lakeview Drive in front of the Visitor Centre

3:00 pm - Home & Hearth at the Tipi

3:00 pm – 9:00 pm – Beer Gardens in outdoor venue by the water – south side of the Community Hall

4:00 pm – 8:00 pm – Enjoy the music of “Rewind” for free at the Beer Gardens

8:00 pm – 9:00 pm – Bison will Rise Again – Join BB Bison in this musical ‘romp and stomp’. Beside the Community Hall, Great for families

Waskesiu Heritage Museum - Yard Sale

Saturday July 9, 2016

Annual Yard Sale in the town site of Waskesiu. Shop for bargains and treasures on the museum grounds from 10:00 am to 2:00 pm. Hot dogs and lemonade are served starting at 11:00.

Help turn unwanted items into support for the museum! If you have any items to donate, please contact the museum rather than dropping them on the site. If you would like to sell some of your own things, you can rent a table by contacting the museum.

Three Island Paddle & Music Festival

Saturday July 23, 2016 
Join the Waskesiu Marina Adventure Center for a fun filled day of paddling and music at the Hanging Heart Lakes. Bring your paddle boards, kayaks, and canoes or reserve a boat ahead of time from the Waskesiu Marina Adventure Centre. Paddle to different destinations on the Hanging Heart Lakes to be eligible for terrific prizes. There are even prizes for best theme or costumes!

10th Annual Waskesiu Summer Dance – Rock of Ages

Waskesiu Chamber of Commerce and Recreation Association sponsored dance held at the Terrace Gardens (Assembly Hall). Dance the night away to the music of the 60's, 70's, and 80's! Dance at 9 pm with a midnight lunch.

Frank Dunn Triathlon

Sunday August 7th, 2016


For 35 years the Frank Dunn Triathlon has challenged participants in Prince Albert National Park.

Triathletes compete by swimming 1.5 km in Waskesiu Lake; hitting the road for a 62 km bicycle ride, and then running 13 km run in and around the town site of Waskesiu. The morning starts with a pancake breakfast at the community hall.

Waskesiu Heritage Museum – Heritage Day

The good old days of Waskesiu are brought to life at Heritage Days. Living in a shack tent, old fashion games like sack races and treats like grandma makes are all waiting for you at the Waskesiu Heritage Museum’s Heritage Days.

Arbour Day

Members of the local community come together to plant trees and support the healthy ecosystems in Prince Albert National Park.

 The town of Waskesiu comes together to celebrate our trees and green spaces! The annual Arbour Day tree planting and community celebration event takes place every year during the Labor Day long weekend. Show your support by helping plant trees and creating habitat for the creatures that call Waskesiu home!

Reel Rave International Film Festival

Friday September 9 to Sunday September 11, 2016 
A weekend of movie magic, Waskesiu style! Feature films, shorts and documentaries are screened at the Twin Pine Cinemas in the heart of Waskesiu. Social engagements are scheduled throughout the festival giving you the opportunity to discuss the films with other festival patrons.

Now entering its 12th year, the Reel Rave Film Festival is a fundraising endeavor for Prince Albert’s Mann Art Gallery. The festival is part of the Toronto International Film Festivals Film Circuit.

Annual MS Society Bike Tour – Waskesiu Lake

The MS Society Bike Tour is a fabulous one day tour with breathtaking scenery. This fundraising event supports the Canadian MS society and their work in overcoming Multiple Sclerosis. The 66KM tour route begins and ends at the Waskesiu Community Hall in Prince Albert National Park.
