Parks Canada proudly presented 2 speciality prizes and 1 Parks Canada award to 3 island students at the Provincial Heritage Fair on May 16. The awards were presented to students for their outstanding projects on a person, place or event of national historic significance.

The following students received Parks Canada specialty awards: Rachel Hamilton, a grade 8 student at Immanuel Christian School for her project on the Battle of the Plains of Abraham entitled “15 minutes”; and Shailey Letford, a grade 9 student at Immanuel Christian School for her project entitled “The Group of Seven.”

The Parks Canada Award for the best heritage fair project portraying a person, place or event of national historic significance was awarded at the closing ceremonies to Benjamin Davidson, a grade 6 student at Englewood School for his exceptional project entitled “The Life of Samuel Holland.”

As part of the Heritage Fair, students also had the opportunity to take part in cultural workshops, including a tour of Province House National Historic site.

Parks Canada is proud to support the Provincial Heritage Fair and to work with partners to recognize and support youth educational opportunities related to Canada’s cultural heritage.
