 WILDFIRE at Pukaskwa National Park

Wildfire at Pukaskwa National Park

Fire is the most powerful natural process in the boreal forest. At first glance, you may be inclined to describe fire as a destructive force; however, if you take a close look at the effects of fire over time, you may discover that it may actually spark new life in an ecosystem. However, park managers have to weigh the risk of letting nature take its course against protecting the heritage value of the park and ensuring public safety. At Pukaskwa National Park, this balancing act is met with careful planning and preparation.
