Bill longer than head, much wider at end than at base.
Adult male: head and most of neck dark green with purplish reflections. Breast and shoulders white. Middle back dark slaty-brown, feathers tipper paler. Rump and upper tail coverts blackish with greenish gloss. Most scapulars white, longer ones blue. Fore-wing blue; speculum green, bordered in front by a white line and above by black. Abdomen, sides, and flanks chestnut. Patch on either side of tail, white. Under tail coverts black. Eye orange or yellow. Legs and feet vermilion.
