-Anas discors Linnaeus
Head and upper neck lead grey with purplish tinge and with large white crescent in front of eye. Chin blackish. Back, rump and tail dark brown; the feathers margined and otherwise marked with buff. Fore-wing chalky blue, a narrow white border separating the blue area from a bright-green speculum. Breast, abdomen and sides brown, thickly crossed and spotted with black. On either side of base of tail a conspicuous white patch. Under tail coverts black. Eye brown. Bill bluish black or bluish grey, blackish on ridge. Legs and feet dull yellow.
