-Mergus merganser Linnaeus
Adult male: Head and upper neck blackish, strongly glossed with green. Upper back and scapulars black. Rump, upper tail coverts, and tail, grey. Fore-wing mainly white,greater coverts crossed by a dark bar. Primaries and outermost secondaries blackish brown, others mainly white. Lower neck, breast, belly, sides and under tail coverts, white faintly suffused with pinkish. Eye variable, red to brown. Bill red, dusky on ridge and tip. Legs and feet red.
