-Sterna hirundo Linnaeus
Crown and nape black; back and upper side of wings pearl grey; tips and outer webs of primaries dusky to silvery grey; tail forked, white with grey outer webs; under parts very pale greyish becoming white on chin, cheeks, under tail coverts and wing linings; bill red, usually with black tip; legs reddish. Adults (winter); similar but forehead white, a broad black patch extends from in front of eye around back of head; bill dusky red.
