Adult male: head, neck, throat and rump light cerulean blue; back and scapulars darker blue; wings and tail blackish edged with bluish; two white wing bars; breast cinnamon, this colour extending to sides; abdomen and under tail coverts white. Adult female: upper parts greyish brown, the rump greyish blue; back often indistinctly streaked with dusky; wings and tail, dusky edged with greenish blue; two dull-buffy or whitish wing bars; throat, breast, and sides buffy; abdomen and under tail coverts dingy white.
