Gull, Laughing (Local Rarety)
-Larus atricilla Linnaeus
Adult a smallish, white-bodied, grey-mantled gull of the Atlantic coast; in breeding plummage with black head; primaries black with no white spots, only narrowly tipped with white, the outermost and usually the next without white tip. Mantle dark grey. First autumn: upper parts greyish brown, feather edges pale; wing tips brownish black, all but outermost primaries tipped white; secondaries whtie tipped; rump and upper tail coverts white; tail with dark subterminal bar; throat and breast greyish brown blending into white on abdomen; bill blackish; legs brownish.
