Skimmer, Black (Provincial Rarety)
-Rynchops niger Linnaeus
Unmistakable. A long-winged bird of Atlantic coasts with peculiar thin knife-like bill, the lower mandible of which extends far beyond the upper one. Forehead, sides of head below eye, and under parts white. Rest of head, hind-neck, back and upper side of wings black. Tips of secondaries and inner primaries white, giving a conspicuous white hind-edge to wing. Tail white mixed with brown, forked. Basal half of bill red, terminal half black.
