Plumage soft and loose. Crown and back of neck black; black olive-grey, mixed with buffy - especially in winter; wings and tail blackish slate, the secondaries and greater wing coverts edged with greyish white, the tail feathers edged with grey or white; chin and throat black; sides of head, sides of neck and under body white, sides and flanks tinged with buff; bill black; legs dark bluish-grey.
