Bill slender, downcurved, sharp-pointed. Tail rather longish, graduated, the feathers stiffened and sharp-pointed. Adults: Upper parts, deep brown steaked with greyish white, becoming tawny on rump and upper tail coverts; wings mainly dark brown with a patch of pale buff across middle of primaries and secondaries; outer webs of tail feathers pale brown, inner webs dusky; sides of head brown with whitish eyebrown line; under parts white, the flanks and under tail coverts tinged buffy.
