-Podiceps auritus (Linnaeus)
A small grebe with short straight bill. Sexes alike. In flight shows a single white patch in wing. Summer adults with their broad buffy ear-tufts, conspicuous against black head, are likely to be mistaken only for the Eared Grebe. Its chestnut neck readily separates it from the Eared Grebe, which has a black neck, and it lack the helmet head-shape of the Eared.
