Adult male: upper parts mainly greyish-blue, this extending down over face and sides of breast; upper and lower eyelids partly white; in middle of back, a large patch of greenish yellow; two predominent white wing bars; two or three outermost tail feathers on each side with large white patch near tip; throat and much of breast yellow; yellow of throat separated from that of breast by a blackish band and behind that band some spots of reddish brown; sides usually tinged with chestnut; abdomen and under tail coverts white.
