Upper mandible hooked. Adults: crown, nape, and back light bluish-grey paling to white on rump with ends of scapulars, the lower forehead, and a line back over eyes white also; black mask from base of bill to ear coverts; wings mostly black with a white patch at base of primaries; secondaries and tertials narrow ipped white; tail mostly black but out feather on either side mainly white, with rapidly diminishing extent of white on each more inward feather; under parts white with more or less fine wavy dusky barring (but sometimes nearly or quite absent).
