Adult male: Crown, hind-neck, and ear region grey; stripe over eye pale yellowish; back and scapulars greyish brown striped with black; rump paler than back, unstreaked; wing coverts chestnut; bend of wing yellow; no wing bars; lower throat with black bib (obscure or absent in autumn); upper throat white; breast bright yellow, often extending down middle of abdomen; rest of under parts white; bill bluish with dusky sides; legs greyish brown.
