-Cardinalis cardinalis (Linnaeus)
Head crested; bill heavy and grosbeak like; wings short, rounded; tail rather long. Adult male:Mainly vermillion red, the back and rump darkest and with greyish feather edges; bib and narrow area around base of bill black; bill red or orange red. Adult female: Wings and tail dull red, the feather broadly edged with greyish-olive; crest also dull red, tipped and mixed with greyish olive; rest of upper parts greyish olive; under parts tawny or buffy, the breast often with a little red; bill reddish or pinkish.
