Adults: Rusy brown and grey in various proportions, the rusty brightest on wings, tail and upper coverts, much mixed with grey on top of head and on back (but top of head and back often mostly grey); Two inconspicuous whitish wing bars; under parts white with broad stripes, blotches and arrow-shaped spots of rusty and chestnut on sides of throat, breast, sides and flanks; bill dusky above, yellowish below; legs flesh to clay colour.
