Top of head with two broad lateral stripes varying from all black to dark chestnut brown; median crown stripe varying from white to grey or tan; back and scapulars chestnut brown striped with black; rump plain pale-brown; two white wing bars; bend of wing pale yellow; tail dark brown narrowly edged with pale brown; broad pale stripe over eye, yellow in front, white to buffy behind eye; narrow line from eye to nape, black to brown; cheeks and upper breast, grey (often more or less streaked with dusky); throat patch white, sharply cut off from surrounding grey and framed on each side by a thin line of black; sides and flanks grey mixed with brown; abdomen white; bill dark brown above, paler and more bluish grey below; legs pinkish flesh or pale brown.
