-Plectrophenax nivalis (Linnaeus)
Bill rather small. Hind toenail rather long and slender. Adult male: Mostly pure white, but back, scapulars, alula, tertials primaries black. Four to six inner tail feathers black, the rest white; bill and legs black. Adult female: Similar to adult male in breeding plumage but hindneck usually with some dusky streaks, top of head and often other areas of body tinged with rusty; black of back and scapulars mixed with white and often extending farther down rump; primaries with less extensive white areas, the lesser and greater wing coverts blackish with whitish margins; bill and legs black.
