Adult male: general colour, canary yellow; crown, forehead, space in front of eyes and most of wings and tail, black; tail coverts, middle wing coverts, ends of greater coverts and edging on some of the flight feathers, white; inner webs of the tail feathers whitish toward the tips; legs pale brown; bill orange-yellow darkening toward the tip. Adult female: upper parts brownish olive, tinged with yellowish, especially on rump and scapulars; no black cap; wings and tail similar to those of the adult male, but dusky instead of black and with no yellow on the lesser wing coverts; under parts greenish yellow but under tail coverts white; bill yellow, darkening toward tip.
