Crossbill, Red (Local Rarety)
-Loxia curvirostra Linnaeus
Bill with tips somewhat elongated and crossed; tail somewhat notched. Adult male: general colouration above and below, dull red; brightest on rump, dullest on back where brown feather centres show through; wings and tail blackish brown; no wing bars; middle of abdomen greyish; under tail coverts grey, usually washed with reddish. Adult female: general colouration greyish olive, more or less striped and spotted darker, becoming yellow on rump and often on breast and sides; wings and tail plain blackish-brown with narrow pale edges.
