Adult male: Crown with median buffy stripe, bordered on each side by a broader blackish stripe; rest of upper parts streaked with buff, black and browns; tertials and secondaries heavily barred with black but with light-brown edges; bend of wing yellow; tail feathers brownish grey barred with black, but the outer feathers chiefly white; pale stripe from nostril back over eye is yellow in front of eye, buff behind eye; narrow blackish line extending back from eye; rest of sides of head greyish white, usually with fine streaks on ear coverts; throat, much of breast and abdomen lemonyellow; broad black crescent on breast, its ends extending to sides of neck; sides, flanks and under tail coverts buffy white streaked with black.
