Bill short for a blackbird, stout and sparrowlike; tail shorter than folded wing, square at tip. Adult male: head and neck brown; rest of plumage black with greenish and purplish gloss; bill and legs black; eye brown. Adult female: greyish brown above, slightly glossy, the feathers with darker centre; under parts brownish-grey with fine dark streaking; throat much paler with little or no streaking; bill and legs blackish brown; eye brown.
