The double black band across breast and the cinnamon-buffy rump and upper tail coverts are unmistable (other "ringed" plovers have only one breast band and are smaller and shorter-tailed). Its ringing kill-dee, rapidly and frequently repeated, is a common summer voice of upland fields in most of southern Canada west of the Maritimes.
