-Pluvialis squatarola (Linnaeus)
A small hind toe usually present. Axillars black. Similar in all plumages to Lesser Golden-Plover, but in spring and summer the crown is mostly whitish, upper parts lack yellow speckles, and the black of under parts does not extend so far backward, thus leaving the rear abdomen and under tail coverts white. Autumn Black-bellies have much less yellow speckling on upper parts than do autumn Lesser Goldens. The presence of a small hind toe and the distinctions under Field Marks separate it from the slightly smaller Lesser Golden-Plover.
