Whimbrel
-Numenius phaeopus (Linnaeus)

Bill downcurved, slender but usually shorter than in Long-billed Curlew. Separable from that species also by Whimbrel's barred axillars, dark stripe through eye, light median crown stripe, more greyish (less pinkish cinnamon) plumage, and smaller size. Both the Whimbrel and Longbilled Curlew have a characterisitc saw-tooth colour pattern on the inner webs of the primaries, which is lacking in the smaller Eskimo Curlew.
