Sandpiper, Purple (Local Rarety)

Bill slightly longer than head, nearly straight or slightly downcurved, yellowish or orange basally. Legs short, dull greenish-yellow to yellowish brown. In winter plumage, back is almost blackish with purplish gloss; head, neck, and breast dark grey, feathers of breast with white edges broader toward white belly; throat whitish; flanks with heavy grey streaks. In breeding plumage, blackish-brown back is variegated with buff and white, breast heavily spotted and streaked.
