Auyuittuq National Park of Canada
Hygiene and Travel Etiquette
“Human waste and garbage are becoming problems even in remote and pristine Auyuittuq National Park. We recommend that, whenever possible, you use the outhouses located near the emergency shelters. This may not always be practical.
If you are not near an outhouse, or you have established a base camp to ski and climb from, we encourage you to pack out your waste in human waste. Specialized canisters are available at the parks office. Ask the park staff for more details.
Otherwise, dig a shallow hole or move a stone to hide the mess. Do not defecate near outhouses or cabins or potential fresh water sources. It can become a health hazard to others and will contaminate the drinking water supply in the spring and summer. Pack out or burn any paper.
We suggest to you that packing out your own waste is the last frontier of skiers mountaineers and backpackers! We challenge you to cross it.”
