Sign up for a guided hike to one of the four sets of rapids along the Slave River and watch White Pelicans feeding!

Rapids of the Drowned can be viewed at the lookout on top of the landslide area, just a couple of blocks from down town Fort Smith!

Mountain Portage Rapids takes you back in time where goods were carried on the backs of determined river travelers before there were access roads into the Northwest Territories.

Pelican Rapids has a breath taking view of a 12 foot standing wave and a famous white water kayaking destination!

Cassette Rapids is the head of the Slave River rapids, downstream from Fort Fitzgerald. The community became a hub of business when the Hudson’s Bay Company portaged all their goods around the 4 sets of rapids to supply their trading posts in the Northwest Territories.

Guided hikes, 1:00pm and 6pm on Tuesdays and Thursdays.

Pre-register at the Visitor Centre.
